Women in Sports: Dawn Staley
Three NCAA women's college basketball championships, and one unbeaten season, are just a few of Dawn Staley's accomplishments. Staley is currently the women's basketball head coach at South Carolina University. Before her coaching career, she had a successful career as a player. Staley played for Virginia and led her team to three final-four appearances. On the Olympics website an article called, “Basketball Greatness Personified”, written by Chloe Merrel, discusses Staley's career. Staley played for Virginia University, even though she did not win any championships there she earned other awards. She earned two Naismith trophies, and two ACC Player of the Year awards, and was also named the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 1991.
